Officer Hollingsworth made contact with a man on Tennessee Avenue matching the description made by the victim. He was identified as 49 year old Jerry Robinson of Galax, Virginia.

Officer Hollingsworth asked Robinson, in possession of the bicycle, to stop and he replied that he didn’t do anything. Robinson then fled the scene on the bicycle with Hollingsworth behind telling him to stop. The officer then gave chase across four lanes of traffic. Robinson had to be tased so he would stop and no longer be a danger to himself or Officer Hollingsworth.

Robinson was finally taken into custody and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with fleeing or evading police 2nd degree – motor vehicle, theft by unlawful taking under $500.00, disorderly conduct – 2nd degree, and wanton endangerment – 1st degree – police officer.

The mother of the child, who the bicycle belongs to, openly thanked Officer Hollingsworth on her social media page saying that some people wouldn’t have dealt with the situation because “it was just a bike…but he did and we appreciate it.”
