On July 3rd, 2019 Sgt. Robert Reed of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division initiated a traffic stop on West Jacksboro Road for a light law violation. Sgt. Reed discovered the operator of the vehicle was Jason Michael Hopson (37) of New Tazewell. Upon further investigation Sgt. Reed found Jason Hopson was operating a motor vehicle on a revoked drivers license. Sgt. Reed and Deputy. Kolby Mullins were given consent to search of the vehicle Mr. Hopson was operating. Officer’s were able to locate 19.39 grams (0.5 ounces) of a clear crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. During the course of the traffic stop the vehicle’s passenger was identified as Andre Tobiahs Goins (40) also of New Tazewell. Sgt. Reed discovered $1,215.00 in United States Currency believed to be the proceeds of illegal narcotics transactions. Jason Hopson was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine for Resale, Driving on Revoked License and Violation of Probation. Andre Goins was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine for Resale. The investigation is still currently ongoing. Sheriff. Bobby Brooks states the effort by the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office to locate, arrest and prosecute individuals involved in the sale of narcotics in Claiborne County will continue.
