Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Jamie Etherton along with Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards, Detective Bryon Lawson, Bailiff Paige Vanhook, and Bailiff Brent France arrested two individuals on Wednesday afternoon May 22, 2019 at approximately 12:51 PM. The arrests occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart notified deputies through Laurel 911 dispatch that they had encountered a suspicious acting female subject in the store. When deputies arrived at the scene and made contact with the female subject she stated that her sister had left Walmart with a child not hers. Through investigation deputies determined that this was a false report. In addition, they determined that this female subject detained was under the influence. They also learned that she had apparently been in the store with a male subject and after a search throughout the building deputies located the male subject exiting the store and noted that he appeared to be under the influence. An investigation was conducted and the male subject was also determined to be under the influence. In addition, the male subject was found in possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, suspected Suboxone, suspected Valium. In addition, this subject had a green pipe with a burnt end on it that the male subject stated he uses to smoke meth. Also this individual was found in possession of unpaid merchandise totaling over $247 found concealed in this individual’s leather jacket, pants, and inside of his waist band. These two individuals were identified and charged :
• Joseph Ray Middleton age 40 of Johnson Hollow Rd., Gray charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense –; possession of a controlled substance – degree; possession of a controlled substance – third-degree; possession of drug paraphernalia; public intoxication – controlled substances; theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting under $500.
• Emily K. Wagers age 27 of Frisby Branch Rd., Green Road, Ky charged with falsely reporting an incident; public intoxication – controlled substances.
