MULTIPLE PEOPLE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOLLOWING
MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL PURSUIT

MARYVILLE, TENNESSEE – Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said five people were taken into custody and a revolver seized following a pursuit this morning that ended in Loudon County.

Ernest Wayne McDonald, 22, of Atlantic Avenue, Knoxville, is in custody in the Blount County Correctional Facility. McDonald is facing numerous felony charges in Blount and Loudon counties. Four male juveniles (ages 16 to 17) who were in the vehicle with McDonald were taken into custody but were released to their guardians this afternoon. The juveniles will not face charges.

Shortly before 11 a.m., a Blount County deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle due to a traffic violation. When the driver spotted the deputy, he began traveling at a high rate of speed. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued at a high rate of speed through two lane roads and onto West Lamar Alexander Parkway. The driver of the fleeing vehicle drove into oncoming lanes of travel several times, narrowly missing multiple vehicles before striking a vehicle in Maryville. The pursuit continued west on West Lamar Alexander Parkway into Loudon County and ended when the driver crashed his vehicle in Lenoir City near the I-75 interchange. All five occupants fled on foot, but were quickly taken into custody with deputies and officers with Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, and Lenoir City Police Department.

The investigation is continuing, and charges will be placed on McDonald later this evening.
