MARYVILLE, TENNESSEE – A Maryville man is in custody after he stabbed another man during an altercation Wednesday afternoon, and the victim was taken to the hospital with what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Marcos Anthony Colpean, 23, U.S. Highway 411 South, was taken into custody by Sheriff’s deputies following the incident and charged with aggravated assault. Colpean remains incarcerated on a $25,000 bond in the Blount County Correctional Facility pending a hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court at 9 a.m. March 21, 2019. Colpean was also served two warrants for violation of community corrections and one failure to appear on a felony charge.

The victim, Joseph A. Whitehead, 41, Turkey Pen Road, Maryville, was taken by AMR Ambulance Service to University of Tennessee Medical Center following the stabbing.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Turkey Pen Road at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to the call of a stabbing. When they arrived, witnesses told deputies that Colpean and Whitehead had become involved in a verbal altercation on the porch of the residence and Colpean stabbed Whitehead, then Colpean fled on foot from the residence. A short time later, other deputies made contact with Colpean in the area and took him into custody without incident
