Arrest made in Bell County
Cary, Ky. – On Monday, June 24, 2019 at approximately 12:13 A.M. Troopers from the Kentucky State Police Post 10 responded to a call for assistance from the Bell County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a shots fired complaint near Billy Goat Road in the Cary Community of Bell County.
Once troopers and deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered Charles E. Lawson (53) had allegedly shot into a nearby residence and had also allegedly started a structure fire at or near his residence. Shortly after their arrival, Mr. Lawson fired shots at the troopers and deputies on the scene. KSP Special Response Team was activated and responded to the scene. After a several hour standoff, the KSP Special Response Team approached the residence and made contact with Charles E. Lawson. Mr. Lawson was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center.
Lawson is currently charged with Wanton Endangerment – First Degree, Attempted Murder of Police Officer and Assault – First Degree. This investigation is ongoing.

According to the Bell County Detention Center Website, Mr. Lawson’s bond is set at $500,000.00 “Cash” on 1 Wanton Endangerment Charge and another $500,000.00 “Cash” bond on the 2nd. The Assault and Attempted Murder charges have no bond amounts listed.
UPDATE: Another 5300.00 “Cash” in bonds have been added based on 3 FTA Warrants.
