Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Joey Robinson with assistance from London city police officer Cody Faulconer arrested Melinda Johnson age 53 of London on Saturday afternoon November 3, 2018 at approximately 1:09 PM. The arrest occurred on Hal Rogers Parkway near the intersection of KY 30 in London after Deputy Robinson conducted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Neon after he observed the driver jerking her head and arms uncontrollably and both the driver and passenger not restrained in seat belts. During the traffic stop Deputy Robinson attempted to conduct an investigation with the driver who failed to cooperate, who refused to exit the vehicle and attempted to reach for something in the console area. A struggle took place between Deputy Robinson and the driver who was finally removed from the vehicle and taken into custody. The driver was found in possession of a container that contained a white crystal substance in it and also found in possession of a clear bag with a white powder substance inside. Melinda Johnson was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – second offense; resisting arrest; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot; wanton endangerment – second-degree – police officer is victim; disorderly conduct – second-degree. In addition, the subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on numerous traffic violations. In addition, the subject was charged on a second Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of public intoxication – controlled substances; resisting arrest; disorderly conduct – second-degree.
