Yesterday (8/20/18) just past noon, Mr. Nathaniel Henderson of Jonesville Virginia and his partner Ms. Samantha Barley of Pennington Gap Virginia were enjoying a lovely time shopping at Belks in the Middlesboro Mall when all of a sudden the situation changed. Someone from Belks called in a shoplifting complaint on the couple causing Detective Joe Holder to respond faster than the Tennessee Vols can blow a 4th quarter lead.
Once the pair were confronted by the intimidating Detective Holder, Mr. Henderson immediately sang out that Ms. Barley had drugs outside in his truck. Barley responded with telling Detective Holder that Henderson had other stolen items in the vehicle. The couple just aren’t getting along well at this point, so Detective Holder is given permission to search the vehicle and…well, sure enough, meth and pills. At this point it looks like Mr. Henderson is off the hook. Hold on to your Belks bag.
Remember this is Joe Holder. All angles of the case will be examined. The licences are checked and Mr. Henderson’s comes back with a bench warrant for failure to appear for a jury trial in Harlan. Now Joe has to search him. Mr. Henderson had meth on his person as well as another “unspecified drug”.
The couple was escorted to Pineville in separate cars I’m sure where they are now staying at the Bell County Detention Center (no honeymoon suite).
Ms. Barley is charged with shoplifting and possession of meth. No bond at this time.
Mr. Henderson is charged with possession of meth, possession of drug unspecified and bench warrant. 1k “Cash” bond.
The moral of the story: “Shoplift with those you trust”.
Good Job Detective Holder. That was fast.
Officer Josh Harris assisted in the arrests.
Go Team Middlesboro !!!
P.S. Make sure bring your drugs with you when shoplifting. It makes for a much better story when you are arrested.
