PRESS RELEASE

On or about May 3, 2018 Derrick Logan Jefferson did knowingly and without the owner’s consent make forcible entry into a residence on Oak Ln. When the resident went upstairs the suspect stated that he had a gun. The resident fired a shot into a wall and retreated from the residence and called 911. When officers arrived they made contact with the suspect inside an upstairs bedroom closet, the suspect fired a single round at the officers. The suspect was arrested after the firearm malfunctioned attempting a second shot. The suspect told officers that he intended to kill them. Derrick Logan Jefferson was transported to Hamblen County Jail. No bond has been set at this time. Lt. Hefner and Sgt. Ringley handled the situation in a manner that prevented injury or further complications.

Attempted First Degree Murder
Aggravated Assault
Aggravated Burglary
